Wesley's 1.5 hours of school today

Today was Wes' first day of school, alone. (yesterday was the open house). He did well. He went right in and played with Harry, so I snuck out. C and I went to the library for about 10 minutes--big mistake, now he knows where the lollipops are hiding--then we came back to check on Wes. Marci was outside the door and reported he got teary, but then was distracted and fine. So we went up to her classroom for a little while, then checked on the boys a few more times, before leaving at 9:40. (Marci will teach 1st grade Sunday School).

We returned to school at 10:30 for pick-up and Rohna said he did really well. Broke down a few times but was easily distracted. And he loved singing and playing. LOVED singing. He keeps singing the school songs (which, of course, he already knew because Carson taught it all to him.)

Carson, on the other hand, cried a lot last night. It just isn't fair that Wes can stay at school and he can't. THAT'S NOT FAIR!

We miss Maine!

After school today, my friend, Marci, and I took the kids to Peace-a-Pizza. As good as the pizza was, I think the kids enjoyed the kayaking even better. (Carson's first question, "but, Mama, where are the oars?"

With Julia and Harry.

The first day at school

September 5 brought the first day at school. The boys attended an open house in their classrooms today. There they met their teachers and played with new friends. Wesley will be in Rohna's room (Carson was in there for the past 2 years, and Wes has known Rohna since he was only 6 days old.) It will be quite an experience for him to be at school, and I'm pretty nervous about leaving him tomorrow (even if it is only 1.5 hours.) Wes already knows 3 children in his class from before--our neighbor, Harry, will be in with him, as well as Dylan and Ella, who have older siblins in Carson's class.

Carson's teacher will be Miss Dot. The class has 20 children, 11 of which he's been in school with since he was Wesley's age.

Dutch Wonderland

To kick off the Labor Day weekend, Steve took the day off and we headed to Dutch Wonderland, about 45 minutes to an hour west of our house.

August 29: Wesley's Birthday

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketFor Wesley's special dinner, he chose to go to McDonald's, where we dined on an elaborate feast. The boys each had a 6-piece Chicken McNugget Happy Meal. Then it was into the playland!

August 28: Carson's birthday

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketEach year, the boys get to select a special dinner event. They can go anywhere (well... within reason). Carson opted to stay home. Then, planned an elaborate meal which we prepared:

Grilled Chicken
Grilled Corn on the Cob
Fresh Fruit

and for dessert... Zucchini Bread

So it was off to the farm to buy fresh produce. It really was a wonderful meal!

Birthdays Party

What a wonderful birthdays party we had for Carson (4) and Wesley (2). Friends were invited over on Friday, August 24 for pancakes, games and cupcakes. We also invited Carson's beloved soccer coach to help entertain the kids. Some pictures:

Milestones: He's all grown up

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketHard to believe, but Wes is now in his 5th consecutive day in underpants. He's only had one accident! He was so easy to potty train, its remarkable.

Tearing up a little... because my baby, who starts school on Wednesday, is now in a big boy bed AND potty trained, isn't such a baby any more!

A lazy day in Maine

As it should be. We all need a true day of relaxation and the feeling of not having to do anything...

Yes, Pop's reading Wesley the end of Harry Potter! He spoiled the whole series for him.

Fishing

We returned that afternoon and the boys finally caught some fish--a lot of fish! There must be nothing to eat in Salmon Pond, because the fish were hungry!

We fished until the sun went down, then went to town for a very late dinner.

Booth Bay Harbor

Monday was one of my favorites... and only because it was a day for lobstah and clams!

The bouys were as big as the boys!

We tried to get the boys to try the lobster and clams, but they would much rather enjoy corn on the cob and grilled cheese. I don't think anyone ate as much as me... as usual at Booth Bay!

After lunch, we enjoyed time in town. We had a great day...

we met bears...

and a moose!

Bon Voyage!

Steve surprised us all by renting a boat for the day on Sunday. A gorgeous day in the 70s, we arrived bundled up and ready. The boys had no troubles adapting to the boat ride, and were so excited to fish! (Though none were caught). The Pontoon was rented through Great Pond Marina, and we spent the day on Great Pond. Wesley and Carson learned about bouys--and what each color means. We were able to pull-up pretty close to loons out sunning.

A morning nap...

We docked in the town of Belegrade for lunch. (you can pull up to the docks behind the Village Inn -- and leave your key in the boat. We were in Maine, ya'll!) Nana and Pop met up with us while we were exploring a good ol' Belegrade Lakes Farmers Market--complete with an "orchestra" and homemade foods. The cheeses were delish.

Welcome to Belegrade!

After lunch, we headed back to the boat and gave Nana and Pop a tour of Great Pond.

We were in Maine... the driving age is 4 right? or is it 2? So they had their permits!
